Unit X- Hulme, Manchester

I had mixed feeling about this area of Manchester, the area I was given, as I'm now currently living in a flat smack bang in the centre of Hulme. I had so many thoughts running through my mind about where I could start and how I was going to approach the task at hand. Over the next 8 weeks I am going to have to try and look at Hulme in a different way than I do now. I will have to discover new things about the place I have lived in for the past 7 months. It has been a big transaction for me from moving away from my family home surrounded by my family and friends to a new city and neighbourhood I am unfamiliar with. I have lived in Hulme since September, it had a bad repartition as its so close to the famous Moss Side which is known for its drug and gang crime.
I sometimes feel very intimidated walking around the area at night and refuse to walk the streets alone after dark...what is it that makes me feel this way? Is it just me scared after hearing what other people have said about the surrounding areas? Or would i feel this way even if I didn't know the stories and the area's history.

I really want to learn more about the place I have lived in my first year away from my hometown. I want to learn more about myself and my relationship with Hulme and Manchester and how living in the area has changed me.
