DEATH OF THE AUTHOR

Throughout working with Lucy and Ryan I have constantly been thinking about a lecture 'Death of the Author' with the likes of Damien Hirst making making work but not acutely taking part in the process of physically making it, someone else doing that for him does that make him no longer the the Artist?

I ask myself what is the most important part of the work? the idea or the making of the piece. In my option the idea is everything without the idea there would be know work.

While we have been creating the films i am constantly aware of this and i still somehow feel in-control of what I am doing even though we are very much working in a group. I feel this would of been completely different if i was working with another Fine Artist as they would of had there artist option. i am not sure i would of liked this due to Lucy and Ryan being media students there impute has been mostly about the physical side such as there skills with a camera and experiences with working with film. My impute has been based mostly on the idea and how the viewer will feel when viewing it.

Maybe this is another reason why i didn't enjoy working in a large group mostly containing Fine Artists. Although I can appreciate everyones individual creativity and really do enjoy seeing the different ideas created by different people I think I new I wanted to be the creative director and didn't like the idea of someone else being the 'artist'.
